Adding AI to a product without making it weird

A practical way to decide where AI actually helps your users, and how to design it so people trust it.

AI that
earns its place

Start with a boring task

The best AI features I have shipped removed a chore: summarising a long thread, drafting a first reply, sorting messy data. Nobody asked for “AI”. They asked for less busywork.

Show your work

People trust AI output more when they can see where it came from. Link to sources, show the input it used and make it easy to edit the result.

Design for wrong answers

AI will be wrong sometimes. Design the undo, the edit and the “this is not right” button from the start, not after the first complaint.

Measure the chore, not the feature

Track how much time or how many steps the feature saves. Usage alone can hide a feature people open out of curiosity and never use again.
